the harrogate girl spa review yorkshire

Having stayed at the Devonshire Arm’s Hotel before, I did a little jump for joy when they asked me to review their spa. I decided to invite one of my oldest friends Emma, we went to school together and I don’t spend enough time with her.

Just a few miles from Harrogate, the Devonshire Arm’s Spa is small but perfectly formed. Offering an intimate, tailored experience perfect for couples or friends to catch up. Parking right outside a beautiful converted barn, with honeycomb stone and giant barn style windows and surrounded by rolling hills, it certainly made for a unique location.

A warm Yorkshire welcome

Upon entering we were greeted by Duncan, the spa assistant. He was super friendly and excited to show us round. Presented with a towel, flip flops and a robe, we went to get changed in the communal chancing rooms, located upstairs, which had around 12 individual, lockable cubicles. The lady’s locker room does have a small space to change if you’d prefer and a toilet and shower within it. The lockers don’t require a code, token or money as it’s a good old-fashioned lock and key.

As we were having a treatment, we filled in our forms in the spa lounge whilst enjoying a coffee. The spa lounge was cosy and comfortable with views of the dales. It also benefits from a sun terrace with loungers to enjoy the Yorkshire sunshine.

What Spa facilities does the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa have?

Open to both hotel guests and the public the main pool and jacuzzi is located in the impressive double height barn. The building makes the most of the exposed stone, wooden beams and large windows it made me feel like I was worlds apart from modern day worries.

Just off the pool is a steam room, sauna, and shower experience. Like girls on a mission we headed straight to the steam room to prepare our skin for our forthcoming facials, ensuring our pours will soak up the many lotions and potions.

Temple Spa facial treatment

Time just flew by, and before we knew it, our spa therapists came to find us for our treatments. My spa therapist was called Sarah, she welcomed me into the room, talked me through the treatment and offered some “very attractive” paper knickers to change into so I wasn’t laid in my soggy swimsuit, which I thought was a very thoughtful touch.

Both Em and I chose to have the ‘My Kinda Skin’ facial priced at £70 for 60 minutes. The Devonshire Arm’s spa uses Temple Spa products which made out skin silky smooth! And I chose a relaxing head massage whilst the mask was on my skin.

The facial was so relaxing I was on the verge of sleep. For the rest of the morning we chatted in the jacuzzi and chilled on the sofas before it was time to get changed and head over to the Burlington Restaurant to indulge in Afternoon Tea.

One thing to note was the changing area and main showers are apart from each other but don’t forget there is a shower in the lady’s changing rooms which is located next to the changing area. The main showers are on the ground floor just off the main swimming pool.

Afternoon Tea at the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa

If the spa wasn’t heaven enough, we popped across the road for afternoon tea in the Burlington restaurant. Now the last time I was in here I was reviewing their tasting menu and the restaurant has recently featured in the Top 100 List of National Restaurant Awards – the team should be so proud!

Sat in the conservatory, overlooking the beautiful topiaries courtyard, Em and I enjoyed three tiers of deliciousness. Comprising of a wide selection of freshly made finger sandwiches, homemade warm scones and to top it off, dainty cakes – we couldn’t wait to tuck in! The hotel offers an extensive selection of teas, including our Yorkshire Tea, perfect to accompany our afternoon tea.

I did ask for a pescatarian afternoon tea for my friend, to which the waitress mentioned our request when we sat down. However, the sandwiches were an equal mix of meat, fish and veg. Upon asking the waitress said they would get some more salmon sandwiches made should we wish. My friend said no, we will be fine, so I gave her my salmon sandwich in return for one of her chicken sandwiches.
