Swinton Park looks like something out of a fairy tale, and it is!
Swinton Park Country Club is a new addition to the Swinton Park Estate, which is nestled in stunning countryside, bordering the Yorkshire Dales. The new club opened in July 2017 and offers visitors the opportunity to detox, revitalise, sleep and de-stress. I’d just love to take my wonderful mummy for Mother’s Day with their offer for just £65 for two. Details below.
Our trip to Swinton Park Country Club
On a snowy Sunday in January, my friend Sam and I ventured out towards the Yorkshire town of Masham for a day of relaxation. To me, January has always been about starting a fresh, but often that means indulging less and with an insanely busy January, that’s not what I needed.
Swinton Park has firmly put it’s self of the luxury spa map, and just in time too as there seems to be luxury modern spas popping up all over the country. One in three Brits (33%) have indulged in a treatment at a spa or salon in the past 12 months. And, researchers predict that this boom will continue well into 2021, with the estimated spend on treatments by consumers expected to surpass £8bn.
Arriving at Swinton Park Country Club we were impressed by pure beauty of it’s architecture. Built out of beautiful Yorkshire stone and sturdy oak beams, this strikingly modern club still bowed to it’s surroundings. Walking into the spa a wave of tranquil calm overpowered us. Sam said,
As soon as I walked through the doors of the Country Club and Spa I felt a weight slowly lifting. You can’t help but feel indulged with the luxurious surroundings and beautiful design.
We were invited to indulge in one of their many loose-leaf teas next to a roaring fire. Whilst we filled in our lunch forms and became acquainted with spa life.
After our teas we made our way up to the changing rooms and prepared for our treatments. There’s nothing worse than a small scratchy, over-washed robe. So when I put on a sumptuously soft robe, I was sure I’d arrived at heaven.
The Spa Treatments
Swinton Park Spa has nine treatment rooms, including two couples’ rooms and a treatment suite with three zoned relaxation rooms. The spa menu features a beautiful range of skin-enhancing facials to support all skin concerns by Elemis, and they have a brand called Bamford, which is a the natural body and skincare brand using organic and botanical ingredients. Sam opted for the Bamford De-Stress Massage (£80).
My treatment, the de-stress massage, did exactly what it said on the tin” said Sam, “It included a blissful back, neck and shoulder massage using Bamford aromatic oils, followed by a leg massage and a little reflexology, all hugely relaxing.
I had the Elemis Pro-Definition Lift and Contour (£80). My therapist asked why I was having such anti-aging treatment when I’m so young… well that was nice of her but at 32 I have a bit of sag! So when I pointed to my chin she got it and tailored the treatment to my requirements. Now, Swinton Park use Elemis at their spa. My sister trained in Elemis so when she used the products I remembered how good they are. In particularly the Orange Blossom Cleanser and Papaya Enzyme Mask – they smell divine too! During the treatment my therapist used what I can only describe as a ‘chin sling’ held up by each ear! The results though were instant and I was very impressed with my ‘smooth as a baby’s bum’ skin.
Swinton Park Spa
After our treatments, we were free to roam the spa. I loved how Swinton Park had thought about how a spa is used and created different zones. This meant that the size of the spa didn’t feel enormous but intimate and friendly.
The spa offers a hydrotherapy pool for therapeutic bathing with a choice of massage features and a cedar hot tub. An Aroma Steam Bath to offer intensive warmth and 100% humidity for deep muscular relaxation and detoxification and a Salt Steam Room to harness the health benefits of salt inhalation associated with breathing, sleep and allergy issues. The Finnish sauna provides dry heat in an aromatic wood cabin. For al fresco relaxation, there is the herbal sauna with wood burner and rustic relaxation area.
My favourite area of the spa was the al fresco sauna.” said Sam. “There was something very special about sitting in the wonderfully warm room, scented with herbs, while watching the snow falling right outside the window.
I have to say there was something very magical about the al fresco sauna, especially on a snowy day, I felt like we’d be transported to a Swiss Chalet and were soaking our tired muscles after a day’s skiing. Alas, we were not but the snow at this point hadn’t stopped since we arrived and we were both secretly hoping to be snowed in.
After a good hour in the spa we made our way to the restaurant, luckily someone from the spa stopped us as we weren’t allowed to go to the restaurant in our robes. We quickly rushed upstairs got changed and headed down to the restaurant.
Lunch at The Terrace
And what a beautiful, light and airy setting it was to enjoy our lunch. Swinton Park have joined forces with Nutritional Consultant, Kate Chaytor-Norris, who has designed a Wellness Day menu including smoothies, lunches and tisanes, for De-Stress, Recovery and Detox – so that spa guests can link their nutritional wellness with their treatments.
Spa’s always make me hungry, when our food arrived I was pleased to see at the enormous plate in front of me. We shared a meat platter and a seared chicken. Both came with sides of beautiful homemade humus, potato salad and tomato soup. We then indulged in a chocolate and orange dessert with fresh yoghurt and a pistachio and chocolate brownie with grated apple.
The Terrace is headed up by Chris McPhee and from seeing the creations on their Instagram feed, I’d rather like to go back in the evening to see what they offer at a tasting menu level.
It’s a shame we had to get changed to eat in The Terrace and during the day I don’t see why it would be much of a problem to be dressed in your robe. However, the spa does offer poolside service, from kitchen to spa lounger and offers fresh juices, hot drinks and snacks.
Overall Experience
Swinton Park have created a wonderful escape in the heart of Yorkshire. They have considered and complimented modern technologies within an intimate and relaxing surrounding. Sam said,
Now I need to find the excuse of a special occasion so I can return – it’s also somewhere that I would love to share with my husband. A real treat.”
I hope they reconsider being able to eat at the Terrace in your robes as it’s such a lovely place to sit and graze. However, I think the spa is spot on for going with your friends, mum or other half. I’m very excited to see what’s to come from Switon Estate.
