Gone are the days when you need to feel damp all weekend long, never be warm and find grass for weeks on end after just two nights camping. And I’m getting a little tired of the same standard hotel room with no va-va-voom! Yes, glamping is now one of the best ways to holiday if you want adventure and mystery. This halfway house is likely to satisfy any townie or city slicker seeking a little refuge in nature – without foregoing life’s luxuries!
With glamping, not only can you spend time in breath taking surroundings enjoying the outdoors, but you can also enjoy all the comforts of a proper bed. Many holiday makers are choosing glamping over the traditional hotel. But why is that? After a recent visit to Havergarth View Glamping Site (which is owned by my sister’s boyfriend, John, and his family) on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales I think I know the reason;
A stunning location

Yes, for me the reason why I’d be choosing to glamp over a hotel stay is for its location. Often found in remote country settings glamping offers its guests a real chance to switch off from our busy lives back home. Havergarth View, in Pateley Bridge is no exception to this. As soon as we arrived we were immediately wowed by the views of Nidderdale – an area of outstanding natural beautiful – and I soon lost sight of life’s stresses when we opened our welcome drinks, sat in the chair and looked out across the pond. Compare this location to a hotel and… it’s incomparable; hotels are often built in areas where there is a tourist trade and with that come tourists, shops, and more people.
Unique accommodation
Already we are in a stunning location but with glamping you’re guaranteed excitement when you see the unique accommodation – glamping certainly adds a bit of mystery and magic. These days glamping is considered to be any form of accommodation from a yurt and a tipi to a pod and traditional Romany caravan, which is placed among the great outdoors.

Exploring Havergarth View Glamping was so much fun, currently they have two very cute, very gorgeous pods – Lily & Rose. They hope to double this come summer of 2019. Each pod contains an extremely comfy king size bed topped with sumptuous bedding, so much so you won’t want to get out of bed! We, Yorkshire folk can’t cope without a proper brew and the pod comes with a kettle, Yorkshrie Tea, coffee, cups, plates, knives & forks, and frying pan so you can cook on the open fire and the owners had gone the extra mile by putting a bottle of beer and Prosecco along with fresh milk in the fridge.
Unlike a hotel room, glamping is a home from home. It has the warmth and familiarity of a home but with the excitement of new and different – ohh it makes me want to go back!
Getting back to nature

Even city slickers can enjoy the Glamping experience. For those who aren’t full on ‘dance in the mud’ kind of people, Havergarth View pods come with their own private hot tub. A cheeky dip under the starlit sky means you can enjoy earths wonders but you know your creature comforts like your phone charger, is at arms reach. In fact, I was lucky enough to spot a shooting star while at the site earlier in the year.

Nidderdale is a beautiful part of the world and changes with the season (my parents also live up dale). The moors are currently (August) alive with a purple haze, the heather topped moors are teaming with wildlife. And at Havergarth View we even had two little visitors – a mother and baby hedgehog!
Fun in the outdoors
Nothing says adventure to me than an outdoor activity or two and Glamping sites across the nation are often close to the best bike trails and walking roots in the country. Havergarth View is on the Niddlerdale Way, a 53-mile root which takes in the splendor of the dale.

The dale also benefits from Brimham Rocks, How Stean Gorge caving, rock climbing, coffee shops, 1940’s day, Nidderdale show, and last year Pateley Bridge was named the best small high street in the UK.
Where ever you decide to glamp, the new Google Trips is a great app to find out what there is to see and do in your area. I always us it!
Spending quality time together

Hotels can have a lot going on, it has the mod-cons such as wifi and tv, so the quality of time spent together might be compromised by the football score alert or that favourite tv programme you watch religiously back home.

Glamping naturally guides you to spend time with your partner, it’s set up to do so. Cook dinner on a open fire, go for a walk to the nearest pub or enjoy a bottle or two in the hot tub. Niki and I spent hours watching the stars in front of the fire and pondered life’s little quirks.

Adventure and experiences
In hotel rooms, food will be served to your liking, the TV goes on at the flick of the remote and you’ll soon become board. When glamping there is adventure at every turn, from cooking your own food to playing badminton before bed. Which reminds me, there is a very funny story I want to share with you, so I’ll put it on email in a few day! Just make sure you’re subscribed to my blog as you won’t want to miss it!
Glamping is set up to excite you, to provide you with the best experiences on holiday. So if you’re still planning to get away but not thought about where. Why not try something different this summer and book a glamping trip?
