From the rich and diverse lands of South America right through to the glamour of uptown New York, The Pit in Harrogate is reaching across the border to bring you the ‘Biena Onda’ (cool) of Mexican food on to the menu.
The Pit is a great night out. As Harrogate isn’t a student town the bars always seem to attract a good mix of people. I’ve been on a few dates here, grabbing a sharing platter, having an early doors cocktail or play ping pong, although, I’m slightly competitive. Okay, I’m really competitive so entering into a game of ping pong with me at your own peril.
The Pit kindly hosted my cousins hen do. We had our own private room (The White Room) along with a bar tender, James who looked after us very well. After sneakily decorating the room in hen do tack the bride to be arrived to a fizz reception (sorry about the groom, popping out from behind out waiter, James).
We opted for a buffet at £13.95 per person and there was loads of food. Mini burgers, chicken wings, ribs, nachos, chips and calamari was on offer. No ideal for a boozy night out but moreish all the same!
There’s even a TV screen in the room which would be great if you decided to hold a works away day – great food, boardroom style table followed by ping pong and drinks afterwards! I used the TV screen to play Mr & Mrs. Em didn’t do too badly and was quite revealing on some of the questions *jaw drops*
I’ve also been for the Pit Ultimate BBQ Platter (£25.95) and it’s worth a go. Presented in a big paella pan it included, delicious fries, BBQ ribs, Boston butt (basically tender pork butt), nachos stacked with avocado, salsa roja and sour cream, Cajun chicken sliders, mesquite smoked chicken wings and beer battered onion rings, and a fabulously fresh Mexican quinoa salad & dill pickle. To accompany this monstrous meal you’d have to ordered a Gin and Juice cocktails (£7.50), made with Portobello Road gin.
The Ultimate BBQ Platter isn’t for the fainthearted and certainly not for one person to take on alone. Let’s start with the finger licking BBQ ribs; oh they sure were finger licking good! The rib meat fell off the bone as did the smoked chicken wings. Great flavours to perfectly suited to a fruity gin based cocktail like Gin and Juice – a great thirst quencher. The fries were delicious, I think they were fried in something amazing. The Pit served a side sauce made of sausage, yes you read correctly sausage.I kept dipping the fries in the sausage sauce – I just couldn’t get enough of these tasty little fries. Now lets talk Sliders. ‘What are sliders you ask?’ Well they are those little chicken burgers. A slider is an American term for small sandwich. The succulent chicken is coated in a Cajun crust and wrapped in traditional mini burger bun.
So if you fancy a feast head down to The Pit Harrogate; and remember… No borders, no rules!
P.S. Thank you to The Pit for hosting our hen do and for the free fizz.
