About The French Reception Hair Salon
Opening in January of this year, The French Reception can be found at 12 Westmoreland Street, Harrogate. Set up by Frenchman, Laurent Bressolles, it’s truly a family affair. His brother-in-law help with the marketing and website and his wife designing the salon’s interior, I went to find out more.
Whether it’s a wash and blow dry, cut and colour or just a gin and tonic, Lauren’t unique style and affability will make each moment at The French Reception time well spent.
The French Reception Service
The French Reception offers a full range of cutting, colouring and hair treatments. They also offer blow drys, bridal services and barbering for men, as well as kids haircuts. Full price list below.
Laurent took his time over the consultation with me, something I’ve not experienced before in such detail. He started off with what style would suit me, ensuring the length suits my shoulders and the front suits the shape of my face. Then he matched the hair colours with my skin and my existing colours to ensure the best possible result.

Once the colour was applied, Laurent left me to blog. Hair Salons can be busy, noisy, rather hectic places, and Laurent wanted The French Reception to be a more tranquil salon where customers felt relaxed and at home. For me the key things a salon must have is Wi-Fi and good coffee; which The French Reception delivered on both. But Laurent goes one step further and offers his clients a complimentary Portobello Road Gin and tonic or beer in the evenings.
It was time to wash out the colour. The French Reception use Kevin Murphy hair products; chosen by Laurent for their all natural credentials. For me this is the bit where hairdressers shouldn’t skimp – the head massage – and Laurent’s massage was out of the world! I felt like I had been transported to Rudding Park Spa, receiving a spa treatment.
Below are thehair products Laurent used on my hair. Along with the Kevin Murphy shampoo and conditioner we have a frizz tamer, volumising moose, and Label M’s shine mist.

About the man behind the scissors
Laurent grew up in Toulouse, France and starting cutting hair as a teenager in his uncle’s salon. From there Laurent went onto own a Salon in Toulouse in his early twenties, but he wanted to learn more about hairdressing so moved to London aged 24. Laurent secured his first job at Toni and Guy in Wimbledon; after spending four years learning from Toni Mascolo and some of the best hairdressers in the world, Laurent and his future wife moved to Melbourne, Australia before returning to France to set up Salon 1609.
Have you been to the French Reception? Where do you go to get your hair cut?
P.S. Thank you to Laurent for inviting me to his salon for a cut and colour.
