Slingsby Gin is celebrating its fifth anniversary this summer – and what do you do when you celebrate a birthday? Cheers! So to mark the occasion, Slingsby is giving away 500 complimentary bottles of Slingsby Solo* to us locals. From today (4th August), Gin lovers can redeem the pre-mix G&T from the Spirit of Harrogate store, on Montpellier Hill, and toast to Slingsby gin’s 5th birthday.
It couldn’t be easier to receive your complimentary tipple, simply purchase a Slingsby G&T (any Slingsby variant) or Slingsby cocktail in any bar or restaurant in Harrogate over the month of August, and head to the Spirit of Harrogate Store on Montpellier Parade in Harrogate and show the team your drinks receipt and you’ll receive a bottle to take away with you there and then – cheers!
Co-Founder of Spirit of Harrogate, Mike Carthy says, “We wouldn’t be celebrating turning five without the help and support of our fantastic staff, the wonderful people of Harrogate and our loyal customers. We hope you will all join us in raising a glass to Slingsby Gin, here’s to the next five years!”
Helping the Harrogate community
The spirit of Harrogate is at the core of the Slingsby brand and over the past five years, Slingsby Gin has focused on supporting the community through a range of local initiatives. Most recently, it kept us in spirits high during the pandemic with a personal local delivery service. The team took to the streets to hand-deliver over 2,000 bottles of its Solo G&T to the community, and also gave complimentary gin to the local NHS staff and healthcare workers to help keep up their spirits. Slingsby Gin also committed to helping its local care homes and hospices by switching up production to produce much-needed hand sanitizer for frontline workers. In addition to this, it is now also supporting a local hospice, by joining the Saint Michael’s Guild of Patrons, they are able to play a key role in driving forward its improvements and expansion.
Over the years Slingsby gin has played an active part in the community and supported a number of charity initiatives. In 2019 alone the brand donated 3,700 bottles of Gin to local causes. Last year, the team raised over £2,000 for mental health charity Mind, taking part in activities such as the Leeds Abbey Dash and the UCI Sportive. Alongside fundraising, the brand has previously sponsored the Sunday Freeway Service supporting the free local bus service to actively encourage visitors to the town centre, and the new Sunshine Coach in partnership with Variety Yorkshire, the Children’s Charity. Slingsby Gin also supports multiple charity events, and will continue to do so through raffle prizes and sponsorships, as well as hosting their own events. Slingsby Gin’s charity golf tournament at Rudding Park last year raised a whopping £6,000 for GroceryAid.
Co-Founder of Spirit of Harrogate, Marcus Black added, “We cannot believe that it was five years ago that we launched our very first Slingsby London Dry Gin. The brand has taken us on a journey, and though it has not always been easy we couldn’t be prouder of where we are today. These unprecedented times mean that we have had to pause our support on a few local sporting events and partnerships such as the Tour De Yorkshire, but as a team, we are ready and raring to go as soon as we safely can get Slingsby back on the road.”
Virtual gin nights

Slingsby has drawn inspiration from Harrogate and used the local produce and botanicals to create an award-winning line up of products including Rhubarb, Marmalade and Gooseberry Gin. Starting out as experimental flavours in kilner jars in the Spirit of Harrogate experience store, and then launching to national retailers – Slingsby is always on the look-out for new and exciting flavours that will surprise and delight customers. This summer Slingsby Gin launched a new virtual gin experience, where members of the public book onto a unique video experience hosted by an expert Slingsby Gin mixologist to learn all about the history of gin – all whilst sipping on a perfectly crafted G&T, delivered by the brand ahead of the session!
Happy Birthday Slingsby
Slingsby isn’t much older than The Harrogate Girl. It’s always been a favourite gin of mine ever since I was introduced to it at a Slingsby tasting night at the West Park Hotel. They also served at my blog’s first birthday party at Hotel Du Vin – can you believe that was four years ago and The Harrogate Girl turns five in September! Raspberry was my tipple but this was soon overtaken by the Gooseberry gin which was released back in 2019! What’s your favourite Slingsby tipple? Comment below.
