As part of my bridesmaid duties I was tasked with making something pretty to sit at the end of each church pew.
Pintrest is a godsend!
So I did what any girl would do and got on to Pinterest. Now I’m not going to lie; I have a wedding board and yes it’s private so don’t go looking for it! I don’t know what girl doesn’t have a wedding board, secret or not. A few years ago, I was addicted to Pinterest, I’ve now curbed the habit but every now and then I like to hop on for inspiration.

Having an idea in mind and more importantly measured the length of the pews I went along to The Cone Exchange. For those of you that don’t know the Cone Exchange is a Bettys & Taylors community project that transforms trash into treasure. The project also receives donations from local businesses from fabric and ribbon to card, paper and even wool. You truly need to see it to believe it.
Ribbon in every colour imaginable faced me. It was like I’d stepped into a rainbow. After browsing a little and getting distracted by the gorgeous fabrics I came across a beautiful blue silky ribbon – it was perfect. I also found some lovely cream lace ribbon and pearls.
Getting creative
I created the bow and lace combo in six simple steps. It took around three hours to make eight of them. Simply:
1. Using your measurements consider how much length you’d need to tie the bow and cut the fabric (with enough overhang to do the final cut when the bows are in position.
2. Tie each bow. You can faff with them when they are finally in position but you will need to ensure the bow is almost perfect.
3. Cut 20cm long pieces of lace ribbon eight times.
4. To make a bow take each end of the lace ribbon fold into the middle (10cm in), pinch the middle to create a bow shape.
5. To secure this, sow in place and attach a single pearl in the centre.
6. Stitch the lace bow onto the centre of the blue bow
