There’s nothing more I like than getting in my pj’s and watching The Holiday whilst sipping on a hot chocolate. But, one has to get out of the house sometimes, so here’s my top 10 things to do this winter.
Pumpkin Trail at Bolton Abbey
Saturday 21st to Tuesday 31st October
A spooktacular week of fun. Follow the trail of oversized pumpkins through Strid Wood and discover the mystery doors hidden among the trees. Behind each door is a clue to help unravel the witches magical spell.
This is a free event. This estate’s admission of £10 per vehicle will apply. Park in Riverside car park near the Cavendish Pavilion. The car park is open from 9am to 7pm. Last admission 5:30pm The pumpkin Trail is open from 9am to 5pm.
Fright night returns at Stockeld Park
Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st October
Fright night returns to Stockeld Park this October with a bang! ‘Be prepared to be scared’ Two never seen before attractions and a new production team have given this already special event a serious dark makeover. It’s not for the faint hearted. The age rating for this event is 12A, it’s STRONGLY RECOMMEND that tickets are not bought for anyone younger than this. BOO!
Harrogate Big Switch On
Thursday 16th November
Join in all the fun of the Big Switch On. Presenters from Stray FM will be there along with brilliant local groups performing. It all starts at 4pm on Thursday 16th November outside the Victoria Shopping Centre.

Harrogate Christmas Market
Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th November
The Harrogate Christmas Market is back! Open at 10am until 8pm, except Sunday when it ends at 5pm. Held on The Stray in the historic Montpellier Quarter of Harrogate town centre, this four-day festive market will be filled with high quality Yorkshire and Harrogate products. This year it is expected to have nearly 200 stalls selling everything from Yorkshire cheeses and chutneys to handmade gifts and Christmas decorations. Not forgetting Santa’s Grotto and real reindeer!
GLOW Winter at RHS Garden Harlow Carr
Thursday 23rd November
See Harlow Carr Garden in a different light this winter as special lighting effects bring a touch of magic to the most northerly RHS garden. Enjoy an illuminated trail around the magnificent trees and shrubs as dusk falls. See the lake, Winter Walk, Streamside and Doric columns as you’ve never seen them before.
Warm up with a hot chocolate treat from Bettys Café Tea Rooms (full café menu until 6.30pm) or Bettys Café takeaway (hot drinks and light refreshments until 7pm).
Free to members (plus usual guest allocation). Reduced entry for non-members applies after 3pm.

Antiques and Art Fair at Yorkshire Event Centre
Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th November
The Antiques Fair event sources talented makers and designers from across the UK and brings them together for two days of stylish shopping for antiques and collectables at the Yorkshire Event Centre.
From 10am until 5pm (4pm on Sunday). Admission from £6 (advanced booking).
Harrogate Bonfire
Saturday 4th November from 6pm
Harrogate Round Table back as organisers of the Harrogate Stray Charity Bonfire. This year is shaping up to be the best yet! Being one of the few remaining bonfire events where an entry fee is not charged, Harrogate Round Table are reliant on the generosity of the public on the evening to donate as much as they can afford to this years supported charity. Thanks Harrogate Round Table we love this event!
Gin Festival at Harrogate Convention Centre
Friday 8th December to Saturday 9th December
The UK’s biggest and oldest Gin Festival is back in Harrogate at the Conference Center for another gin-fueled weekend.
There will be loads of new gins and exclusive gins you won’t see anywhere else plus; gin masterclasses and the opportunity to meet gin distillers in person, a gin cocktail bar, live music and gorgeous food. THIS EVENT IS STRICTLY OVER 18’S ONLY (ID MAY BE REQUIRED) Tickets from £15 and tokens are £5.
Roaring Twenties Ball at Rudding House
Sunday 31st December
Dust-off your fedora. Fluff-up your feathers. The Roaring Twenties return to Rudding Park. It’s the era of prohibition, so the hooch will be flowing! Chris Hilton’s Little Big Band begin the night performing songs from the era. Do up your dancing shoes for the The Charleston, Lindy Hop, Jive and Black Bottom Stomp! The band plays on with Rock n Roll, Motown, Soul, Funk and Disco transporting you to the tunes of today. Guests will be seated on tables of 10 and the evening includes a disco and piper to herald in the New Year. The evening starts at 7.30pm, and is priced at £170 per person, including a five-course dinner, band, party hats and novelties, disco, bacon sandwiches, and a piper.
