Parking in Harrogate town centre is fairly straight forward. Once you’ve mastered the one way system you’ll soon find your bearings.
On street parking in Harrogate town centre
Most parking metres are now contactless payment or use a national app. Harrogate uses an app called AppyParking – it’s a smart parking system that is the first of its kind in the UK. The first time you use it, it can be quite complicated but I use it all the time now and love it.
Before your visit, download the app via App Store or Google Play to see real-time availability of spaces across Harrogate town centre. It does this via the black sensors on all parking bays.
The advantages of using AppyParking instead of the ticket machines is, if you decide to stay a while longer – you’ve not done all your shopping or you want to go for dinner – you can easily add time onto the ticket from your phone, without having to walk back to the car! With each transaction there is a 30p convenience fee.

For town centre location, I’d recommend parking down Montpellier Hill, Princes Square, Victoria Avenue.
Price of Parking in Harrogate
For central Harrogate, charges range from 70p for 30 minutes, to £4.20 for three hours. For the roads further way, its costs from 60p for 30 minutes to £3.60 for three hours.
There are also a few streets classed as short stay areas, where you can park for up to 20 minutes for 60p and up to 40 minutes for £1.20. These are Cambridge Crescent and Princes Street available for 20 minutes maximum stay and Cheltenham Crescent, and Oxford Street for 40 minutes maximum stay.
Free parking in Harrogate
Harrogate also offers free disc parking areas in Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Boroughbridge. Discs are available from tourist information centres and some local businesses. When parking, set the clock on the disc to the time you arrive and prominently display it in your vehicle. Often these disc zones are limited to 20 minutes, one hour or three hours so make sure you check the sign closest to your car.
In most disc zones, after you leave, you are not allowed to return to the same or nearby street on the same day.
