We are spoilt for choice with the restaurant offering in Harrogate. There’s something for everyone and for those who love the clean eating lifestyle, this post is for you…
When thinking of where to eat out on an evening in Harrogate, it’s rare that I think about Filmore & Union as an option. However, this Café turn restaurant was the perfect eatery for me and dear friend Sadie to enjoy light bite over a, not so light gin cocktail!

Filmore & Union has grown exponentially over the years. This, once individual café in Harrogate, now has 15 locations across the North – a proper success story! The café prides its self on healthy and nutritious meals that won’t leave a bland taste in your mouth.
Sadie and I had a lot of catching up after months of not seeing each other – see I’m keeping that promise of being more proactive with friends and family – and you always know when it’s a friend for life if you can pick up where you left off like it was only yesterday.
We started off with ordering a delicious Sitting Buddha (£7.90). Made with gin, ginger ale, spices, lime, turmeric and pink peppercorns, it was the ideal drink to accompany our summer eveing meal.Â
A Summer evening menu
For the health conscious or diet savvy this is your hangout!
Each dish has been well thought through to give you the right amount of energy without the need to undo your top button. Filmore & Union are open til 8pm on weekdays and, as I wasn’t wanting anything too heavy, I could easily make my choice from their Summer menu. My first course of halloumi and peach salad with fresh cherry tomatoes and basil was perfect. The salty halloumi went so well with the sweet peach and it’s gluten free!

Sadie had the sweet potato fishcakes on a bed of spiced lentils with tomato, spinach and cucumber tzatziki, again gluten free and also dairy free. The sesame seeds really made a difference to the taste of the sweet potato fishcakes, such a lovely depth of flavour.

For my main course I chose the baked hake fillet in chermoula (a marinade of garlic, cumin, coriander, oil, lemon juice, and salt), with spiced lentils and salsify (plant leaves). I loved this dish but, if you pick it too, do be careful as I did find the odd bone.

Sadie was feeling like she needed some energy, so opted for the bench press salad. This mighty bowl contained roasted sweet potato, beautiful curried cauliflower quinoa salad, spirulina bean salad, feta, avocado, dukkah eggs with a tahini and lime kaffir dressing with Chicken schnitzel. Again gluten free!

To end, Sadie fancied the Filmore mess with strawberries, raspberries and mint. The mint was a great addition – lovely and fresh yet indulgent at the same time. Plus it was the perfect size after the previous two courses!Â

I had the brownie after the waiter recommended it; this uber gooey chocolate brownie was served with Greek yoghurt and sweet honey – mmmmmm!

My Filmore & Union Experience
Filmore & Union has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, you can pop in for a coffee and read the paper or drop to pick up your post workout smoothie, or why not think about dinning there one evening during the week?
Filmore & Union is a way of life, it’s part of your daily routine and it’s fast becoming a feature of every Northern town!

Would I revisit again?
Yes, the flavours were amazing! For two courses the summer evening menu is £14.95 and for three courses it’s £18.95. Mind you both our mains came with a £2 supplement.
Filmore & Union in Harrogate is open from Monday to Wednesday 8am until 8pm, Thursday to Saturday 8am until 10pm and on Sunday from 9am until 6pm.Â

P.S. Thank you to Filmore & Union for inviting Sadie and I to try your new summer menu – it was truly scrumptious.Â
