la feria spanish restaurant harrogate

La Feria is a fab find. Walking down Cold Bath Road it was a beautifully sunny, Bank Holiday Monday and I was in the mood for food. Many Harrogatarians (locals) raved about this rotisserie chicken bar, so when it moved to Wellington House at the bottom of Cold Bath Road I just had to see what all the fuss was about. La Feria is described as a tapas bar and restaurant specialising in rotisserie chicken infused with the flavours of Andalucia.

Rustic chic

The owners love to holiday in the Andralucia region of Spain which has influenced the look and feel of the restaurant. walking up the path and through the gates I felt liked I’d jumped on a plain and ended up on holiday. They’ve created a very special place oozing with character – you have to see it! Many of the tiles, doors and shutters sourced from salvage yards in Cadiz and Sevilla, to bring a truly authentic and ‘loved and lived in’ feel. Sitting in a sunny spot we took a look at the drinks menu. They have a fabulous array of cocktails, Spanish wine and Spanish gin! We ordered a couple of gins… well it was after 12 noon on a Bank Holiday!

Full of flavour

As I mentioned, its speciality is free-range rotisserie chicken infused with the flavours of Spain. It reminds me of my family caravan holidays; we loved grabbing a rotisserie chicken and chips for dinner whilst playing cards. Since moving La Feria has expand their menu and now offer a selection of authentic tapas. After surveying the menu, we opted for tapas and chose:

  • Manzanilla olives marinated in lemon, thyme and garlic
  • Albóndigas Spicy Moroccan beef meatballs in a cumin and tomato sauce
  • Succulent prawns from Sanlucar de Barrameda, Cádiz seared on the plancha with a little garlic and lemon
  • Roasted red pepper, red onions and tomato steeped in olive oil and herbs Served on bread
  • Rounds of thinly sliced pork infused with lemon and garlic
  • Paprika infused bite-sized sausages from Leon, finished in sherry

Sharing is caring

Most of the tapas dishes were priced between £4 and £5 and were the perfect size for sharing. The food looked great in the gorgeous sunshine, we happily grazed through each dish whilst sipping our gins and watching the wonderful world go by. I think we chose our dishes well, but my favourite one was the fantastic paprika infused sausage. The great news is they offer take out too!

Don’t mind if I do

We could not resist ordering Annie’s orange & lemon cake after our waitress described it to us. It’s made in the Andalucian town of Vejer de la Frontera by a friend of the restaurant called Annie. The light almond sponge is soaked with a lemon and orange syrup, steeped in cardamom, cinnamon and star anise – truly sublime… I mean it! My favourite cake ever and it was served with this gorgeous citrus cream.2016-la-feria-cake-flat-lay
